On 11th and 12th February 2025, the IMVACS Consortium held its Kick-off Meeting at Novotel Marcory, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The meeting was opened by Prof. William Yavo, the General Director of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) of Côte d’Ivoire who was pleased to host the IMVACS team in Abidjan.

All the European and sub-Saharan African countries involved in the Consortium attended the meeting: Burkina Faso (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique – CNRST / Institut de Recherche en Science de la Santé – IRSS), France (Epicentre), Mali (University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako – USTTB), United Kingdom (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine – LSTM) and Italy (R-Evolution Worldwide Impresa Sociale).

In addition, the representatives of the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the National Immunisation Programme (NIP), the Permanent Secretariat for Malaria Elimination (SP/Palu) and the Directorate for Prevention by Vaccination (DPV) also took part in the event.

The EDCTP3 Project Officer, Dr. Erika Gaspari, participated virtually and provided her valuable contribution to the discussion.

The opening speech by Prof. Yavo was followed by an introductory session led by Dr. Valérie Briand, IMVACS Sponsor, by Dr. Dario Scaramuzzi, IMVACS financial coordinator and by Dr. Natama Magloire, IMVACS scientific leader. This session was dedicated to the general overview of the project objectives, deliverables and milestones and to the summary of the objectives and topics to be discussed during the Kick-off meeting.

After the introductory session, the plans and strategies to carry out all the activities included in each project WP were put on the discussion table to collect mainly feedback and suggestions from relevant stakeholders present at the event.

The Kick-off meeting closed with a debriefing, outlining the next steps of the study conduction and the future directions to be considered for the success of the project.
